About

- About the Paw

I am a photographer, voice talent, blogger, traveller and occasional musician originally hailing from the “Deep South” of the US who decided long ago to take up residency in Central Europe so as to further my goal of being a “jack of all trades”. Why “Wonky Paw”, you ask? Well, I have a cat, you see, and said cat dislocated and fractured a digit many years back, which the local vet said “was pointless to fix. If the cat could walk, then it will do no harm”. The cat (aptly named “cat” in Polish) has never seemed to mind her defect, but upon close inspection, it just looks a bit … well … wonky!

- Tools of the Trade

Before switching to pixels, I was an avid user of a Pentax P30T and Tokina SD 28-70 mm lens that 90% of the time was loaded with Ilford black & white film. I learned a lot on that puppy and still have it around today. When the pressure got too much (and the harder it became to find the materials or means to develop traditional b & w film in my area), I moved into the age of digital with a Nikon D50. I loved that girl for what she was and am happy she has gone on into the appreciative arms of a good friend. A few years ago, I moved up a step on the ladder to the Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 18-105 mm lens and a Sigma 70-300 mm lens for those “unobtrusive” moments. I’m still a happy man with that purchase, but am fully aware of its limitations. I can already hear a few professional photographers scoffing at my “inexpensive” choice, but hold you tongue, I say! Look how far mobile phone photography has moved into the mainstream with “apps” like Hipstamatic. So, why can’t my low-end camera do what I need, eh?
